Took a week off and decided to finally make a trip to Tokyo Fish Market, and I can't wait to return! Things to note: - Go early, pre-made meals can sell out by lunchtime. - The fish counter staff are super helpful, even if you don't know what you're doing (like me). - Fish price is by pound, but you can buy less than a pound. I bought 0.25 lb per fish for myself. - They have real wasabi. - Otoro is very fatty tuna, Chutoro is medium fatty tuna. - Tasty selection of musubi and onigiri, snacks, beers, and more. I brought a nice haul home and made an excellent sashimi lunch for far less than what I would have paid at a restaurant. The fish was so fresh and delectable! They probably don't need anymore hype, but they've got a new fan in me.

I'm a fan of their poke bowls and the fast service. They've got a solid selection of bento boxes, groceries, and snacks too. The employees are super attentive and make sure you're taken care of. Definitely looking forward to coming back for more poke bowls and snacks!

I would say this market's sashimi quality is a bit lower than Suruki and Mitsuwa. But some of their prices are lower. Their Toro price is $69.95 but we ordered 2 lbs and the cuts were inconsistent. Looks like there's some otoro and chutoro. Some cuts were fatter than others. The salmon looked weird when its prepackaged. Some salmon cuts didn't have the white tendon lines. They ask if you want the salmon with skin or not. When you say no, they do leave the brown skin/meat on top which makes it look weird. Uni wasn't fishy so that's a plus. They also sell the fresh frozen wasabi sauce and different flavored fish eggs. They have a variety of fishes like kanpachi, striped jack, halibut. Theres also octopus, squid, seaweed salad. They also sell rolls. But they were out do a lot of rolls when we came at 4pm on a Saturday. Street parking and a very small private lot.

I want to gatekeep Tokyo Fish Market SOOO bad. It's such a gem in the Berkeley community (albeit a bit of a drive away from campus), but always incredibly worth it for the fresh fish, prepared foods, and amazing variety of imported products as well as locally sourced produce :) The workers behind the fish counter & cashiers are always such a delight to interact with, as well as the cashiers in the gift shop!!! It's such a gem with all the unique ceramics, cookware, and merch! I am the biggest fan of Tokyo Fish Market. My favorite thing to do is come around noon to pick up a tray of fresh salmon nigiri and a tempura onigiri for lunch and scarf it down. 10.25 for 6-7 pieces of the most my in your mouth sushi when most sit down places charge 10+ for two measly pieces??? Tokyo Fish Market wins everyday in my book. (just for reference, I scarfed down my tray with no soy sauce or utensils because it was literally THAT GOOD and then immediately took to writing this review )
